Mowing is the most basic and frequently practiced of all lawn care operations. Proper mowing is essential in the maintenance of quality turf. A lawn that is treated properly will look full lush and vibrantly green!
Edging walkways, blowing away cut grass, and making sure to neatly trim the same height as the mowed grass around objects and your house will make your lawn look well manicured.
If you want the best lawn on the block theirs a few simple tips we follow and you can too…
Try to keep your lawn trimmed no less than two inches but preferably three.
Turf grasses, like all green plants, must be able to photosynthesize in order to survive and grow. Close mowing reduces the amount of leaf area available for photosynthesis, reducing plant vigor. As cutting height is reduced, lawns become less tolerant of environmental stresses and more prone to invasion by weeds than a lawn maintained at a higher cutting height. In addition, root systems of grasses usually become shorter and less prolific as cutting height is reduced. Although a closely-cut lawn can be successfully maintained, its shorter root system will result in a need for more frequent watering and fertilization to compensate for its reduced ability to obtain water and nutrients from the soil.
Re-cut your lawn after it has grown approximately one inch, and No more than two.
You should be able to accomplish this by having it mowed once a week. If your lawn does exceed two inches of growth since its last cutting try and raise your deck up one setting from where its normally mowed. This will minimize excessive buildup of clippings as well as prevent shock to the plant which may occur when the grass is severely defoliated after being allowed to grow too high.
Alternate the direction in which you mow your lawn.
Alternating the direction takes stress of your grass from being ran down in the same direction week after week. This will stimulate and encourage your grass to grow straight and correct!
